Five signs your website is quietly costing you enquiries

Most businesses losing enquiries to their website never find out. Five things worth checking this week — none of them need a new website.

Nobody tells you when your website loses them. They just leave, quietly, and book somewhere easier. Here are five problems worth checking today — and none of them require a full rebuild to fix.

1. It is awkward on a phone

Most people looking for a hotel or a local business are doing it on a phone, often on mobile data. Open your site on your own phone and try to do the one thing a visitor should do: find your number, or send an enquiry. If you have to pinch and zoom, so does everyone else.

2. It takes too long to load

Large unoptimised photographs are the usual culprit — a hero image that is four megabytes, a gallery of full-size camera files. The same photographs, resized and compressed properly, can look identical and load many times faster.

3. A visitor cannot tell what you do in five seconds

Who you are, what you offer, where you are. If the top of your homepage is a stock photograph and the word “Welcome”, visitors have to work it out — and they will not.

4. Getting in touch is harder than it should be

  • Is your phone number visible, and clickable on a phone?
  • Is your email address a link, or an image?
  • Does the enquiry form actually arrive — and have you tested it this year?
  • Do you reply within a day?

That last one is not a website problem, but it is the one visitors notice most.

5. Nobody can update it

If changing a price or adding a room means calling a developer and waiting a week, your site slowly drifts out of date. Old prices and finished offers cost you credibility long before they cost you money.

What to do about it

Fix the order of that list. Load speed, mobile layout and contact details can usually be improved on the site you already have — no rebuild needed. Only when the foundations are genuinely beyond repair is a new site the cheaper answer, and we will tell you which one you are looking at after we have looked.

Send us your site address and we will tell you what we would fix first.
